The FIRST EVER Dance Beat Blog!

Welcome to the first Dance Beat Blog! This is the place where you’ll find exciting news, interesting facts, and news on the exciting world of Dance.

We’d like to start by introducing our teachers, who love what they do and are passionate about the art of dance. We endeavour to make every class fun and enjoyable, as well as rewarding and educational!

Amanda Hughes – Dance Beat Principle, ISTD Fellow & Examiner

ImageFollowing a successful professional dance career, Amanda channelled her own talents and experience to create a dynamic dance school to teach and nurture children (and now adults) of all ages, shapes and abilities. Amanda is now a successful and well known dance school operator, examiner, lecturer and choreographer and was awarded Finalist for ‘Business Person of the Year’ 2010 due to all her hard work and tremendous dedication.

Nicola Hughes – Dance Beat Teacher

ImageNicola has been a dance teacher for over 15 years. She is constantly updating her skills and attends courses to ensure the best information and teaching knowledge to pass on to the pupils.  Nicola is a licentiate member of the I.S.T.D and qualified in Disco Freestyle, Rock n Roll and Ballroom and Latin. Nicola has over the years trained many successful winning competitive teams and she also teaches pre-school dance classes.

She is extremely proud of her achievements in Ballroom and Latin, where her pupils have qualified for the Blackpool Grand Finals – an amazing event to be able to attend.

Nicola has been with Dance-Beat the whole of her dance career and is proud to be a teacher at a very professional and well established dancing school.

Nicola says, “Dance-Beat is a modern and forward thinking school, always willing to try new ideas; supportive of pupils, teachers and trainee teachers.”

Laura Davies – Dance Beat Teacher

ImageLaura has been dancing since the age of 8 and after competing in many competitions and taking part in shows she decided to develop her love of dancing by training as a dance teacher. Now Laura has gone on to develop her dance career by opening dance classes in Sandy, setting up after-school clubs in Wheathampstead, developing dance classes in Hatfield and also running workshops for local councils. Laura is always improving her knowledge and techniques to teach to her pupils and continues to pass on her love of dance.

Emerald Lutkin – Street Dance Teacher

ImageEmerald is a highly qualified and experienced dance teacher, and her speciality lies in street dance. Her choreography is something to be reckoned with and her funky style certainly challenges and rewards pupils who attend her classes! With past experience including studies at Stella Mann and work at Disneyland Paris, Emerald has a solid dance background and always has a friendly smile!

Jessica Ward – Dance Beat Dance Assistant

Jessica began dancing at a very early age, training in ballet and tap originally, and then moving on to Disco Freestyle a few years later. She began assisting in classes in her early teens, and at eighteen, joined Dance Beat as a Dance Assistant. Being part of Dance Beat, Jessica has learnt a variety of different styles of dance, including Rock n Roll, Latin & Ballroom, and plenty of others, through attending congresses and training days (she is very good at waving, locking, tutting etc.!) Jessica also choreographs and trains her own competitive team, who have won a competition recently, which she is very proud of! Speaking of Dance Beat, she says, “Working for Dance Beat has given me the opportunity to fulfil my childhood dreams of dancing, I love teaching and I am grateful for every opportunity Dance Beat has given me!”

Jessica Monk – Dance Beat Dance Assistant

ImageJessica was born in Welwyn Garden City and began her dance training at Dance Beat at the age of 8 years old. She took many exams with Dance Beat and also performed in many fetes, shows and Disco Freestyle & Rock ‘n’ Roll competitions. She went on to further her training at North Hertfordshire College and London Theatre School. She has performed in shows at The Broadway Theatre Catford, Gordon Craig, Sadler’s Wells and the Royal Albert Hall. Jessica has also performed in the pantomimes Dick Whittington and Jack and the Beanstalk. Other theatre credits include 42nd Street and ISTD 100 Years of Dance Centenary Gala.  Jessica is proud to be part of the Dance-Beat team and hopes that her love and enjoyment of dance is given to the children she teaches.

Gemma Knott – Dance Beat Dance Assistant

ImageGemma has been a pupil of Dance Beat since she was seven years old, and will always remember her first ever warm up to the Spice Girls’ song “Wannabe” – and since then never looked back! After competing and working her way through her exams, Gemma went to University where she carried on dancing, and after returning to Hertfordshire, re-joined Dance Beat as a dance assistant.

So that’s us! Please don’t hesitate to ask us any questions you may have about Dance Beat – we’re always happy to help.

In the words of Brucey and Tess – “Keeeeeeep dancing!”
